China advises Americans to look in the mirror

Yesterday, Beijing responded to the statements of a US official that China should learn the right lessons from the situation in Ukraine, including the impossibility of separating the United States from its allies.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “China’s position on the Ukraine issue is public, fair, objective and does not raise any suspicion. Otherwise, it is the United States that has a poor record on the relevant issues.” “We advise the United States to look in the mirror and manage its own affairs properly before pointing fingers and blaming others,” Zhao added.

Zhao said US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman’s comments were “pure clichés” and just “an old trick to discredit and slander China.” He stressed that “the facts have proven that China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international system.”

On Thursday and Friday, Sherman held wide-ranging talks with the Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Service Stefano Sanino in Brussels. The two sides “continue to urge China not to circumvent or undermine the sanctions imposed on Russia, and not to provide any support to Russia’s aggression once morest Ukraine, and reiterate that any such support will have repercussions on our relations with China,” a joint statement said.
