China-Europe Train Traffic Hits Record High in 2023, Exceeding 5,000 Trains at Manzhouli Railway Port

The reporter learned from China Railway Harbin Bureau Group Co., Ltd. that throughout 2023, 5,001 China-Europe trains passed through the Manzhouli Railway Port, transporting 540,000 TEUs of goods, a year-on-year increase of 3% and 16% respectively. The number of China-Europe trains passing through the Manzhouli Railway Port exceeded the 5,000 mark for the first time this year, and the train traffic and cargo transportation volume have increased for 10 consecutive years.

Data show that in the first 11 months of 2023, China-Europe train traffic and cargo transportation volume at the Manzhouli Railway Port increased by 4.1% and 17.2% respectively year-on-year. Both the train traffic and return train volume ranked first in the country. Currently, there are 21 China-Europe train lines operating through the Manzhouli Railway Port, reaching 13 countries including Russia, Poland, Germany, and Belgium, covering 60 domestic cities including Harbin, Shenyang, Xi’an, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Changsha, and Chengdu. . The throughput of port trains accounts for about 30% of the country’s total, and the goods cover 12 categories including daily necessities, industrial machinery, metals, agricultural and sideline products, and wood.

According to Harbin Bureau Group Company, the Binzhou Railway Xilingkou to Boktu section slope reconstruction project is planned to start construction in 2024. After the reconstruction, the China-Europe train transportation capacity blockage will be opened up, and the rear channel capacity of the Manzhouli Railway Port will be further improved, which will improve the transportation capacity of the China-Europe train. It is of great significance to improve the comprehensive security capabilities of China-Europe freight trains.
