China’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 4.5 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2023, according to data released by the State Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Tuesday.
On a monthly basis, the economy grew by 2.2% in the first three months.
“China’s national economy has seen a good start this year, and market expectations have improved markedly,” BES spokesperson Fu Linghui said at a press conference.
China’s GDP grew 3% year on year in 2022, and 2.9% year on year in the fourth quarter of last year.
