Who says China and technology first thinks of draconian social control and surveillance measures. It is very often right, with extreme decisions that shock in the West. But who knows, maybe new measures that are being studied in this country could spread to us. We think of a whole series of measures put in consultation since August 2 by Beijing, concerning children and screens.

It is China’s Cyberspace Administration that has put on the table regulatory proposals intended to try to reduce addiction to screens among the youngest. Thus, according to the initial text, children under the age of 8 will not be able to use their smartphone for more than 40 minutes a day. As for children aged over 8 but under 16, they will have the right to consult a telephone for a maximum of one hour per day. Those between the ages of 16 and 17 will be able to be in front of a screen for a maximum of two hours. And, in general, the use of a smartphone by a minor will be prohibited – with some exceptions – between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day.
