Spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a press briefing, when asked to comment on Israel’s remarks that the country “outright rejects” the UN call for a ceasefire in Gaza, after the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian situation, supported by the majority, during a special emergency session held on October 28.
Wang said the UN General Assembly resolution called for an “immediate and lasting humanitarian truce and cessation of hostilities”, urging relevant parties to respect international law, protect civilians and to reverse the order to evacuate residents of the northern Gaza Strip. According to Mr. Wang, the resolution “rejects any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinian civilians.”
“This reflects the powerful call of an overwhelming majority of countries in the world,” Wang noted.
