Civic Action in Gaza: A ‘No Standards’ Zone

The Operational Void in Gaza

Conventional institutional frameworks fail to capture the reality on the ground. That is the assessment of Ibrahim Arandas, a Palestinian activist and project manager at SPARK Gaza, who detailed the state of civic and humanitarian action in a recent interview with CIVICUS.

SPARK Gaza operates as a civil society organization focused on delivering humanitarian and psychosocial support inside the territory. According to Arandas, standard operational guidelines do not apply to the current environment.

Operating Without Standards

“There are no standards to tell you what to do in conditions like Gaza,” Arandas told CIVICUS.

He described the stark operational void faced by local organizers and humanitarian workers attempting to deliver aid amid ongoing hostilities.
