San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones might be accustomed to reading blitzes and absorbing hits from 300-pound defensive linemen, but navigating a dinner menu presents an entirely different challenge. While discussing his romantic life during a digital media appearance, the 28-year-old quarterback learned that his culinary preferences top the list of modern dating obstacles.
During an episode of The Kittle Things, Claire Kittle—wife of San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle—did not hesitate when asked to identify the single player’s most glaring romantic deterrents. Pinpointing his aversion to certain foods and daily habits, she highlighted two specific hurdles that prospective partners face.
“You don’t eat seafood!” Claire Kittle said during the program. “Oh, and you don’t drink coffee. That one might be worse.”
Jones readily concurred with the assessment, acknowledging that his dietary restrictions rarely make for smooth romantic outings. The backup quarterback even joked that dining out at a seafood restaurant usually leads straight to the children’s menu.
“Yeah. I’d say that those are probably my two biggest ones,” Jones said on the show. Offering fair warning to anyone considering entering the dating pool with him, he added, “Don’t go to a seafood spot with me.”
Personality Traits Offer Balance
While his eating habits may complicate dinner dates, the Kittles were quick to point out that the quarterback’s overall demeanor serves as a major counterbalance. When the conversation shifted to his positive attributes, both George and Claire emphasized his steady disposition.

“I would obviously say his personality. Everyone loves that,” Claire said.
George Kittle echoed that sentiment, highlighting how the quarterback maintains his composure through the physical toll of a professional football season. “His positivity would be my biggest green flag. Even when you’re hurting, you still got a smile on your face and a love of life,” George said.
Claire noted that this upbeat attitude proves particularly valuable during difficult stretches of the season, such as when the team deals with injuries or consecutive losses.
Current Standing With the 49ers
The resilience of the San Francisco roster has been tested this year through various physical setbacks. Despite managing multiple injuries across the lineup, the team holds a 6-1 record and sits atop the NFC West.
With starting quarterback Brock Purdy healthy, Jones has appeared in just one game this season, entering after the 49ers had already put the game out of reach.
Looking Ahead to the Schedule
The 49ers have a bye this week.
