The Cleb deputy points out that it is clear that the territory belongs to Venezuela and it does not necessarily have to go to a consultative referendum for that recognition.

Zaida Vahlis, coordinator of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) in the state of Bolívar, points out that the position of defense of the Essequibo territory that historically and legally corresponds to Venezuela is indisputable.

He considers that it is not necessarily necessary to go to a consultative referendum to make this recognition that is established in the Constitution, so with the historical process a defense must be made that is true and in a patriotic manner.

He points out that, constitutionally, established in articles 1, 10 and 350, it is clear and explicit that Essequibo belongs to Venezuela.

“We must do all the actions that we must take in the exercise of that right, execute them, but I propose that since these articles contain the fact that this territory belongs to our country, the execution of the referendum for these purposes is not necessary,” says the Cleb deputy.

He maintains that with the exercise of citizenship, the forceful actions that are necessary must be carried out in the face of any Guyana position to take away the Essequibo.

Strong actions

Likewise, remember that in past years it was seen that previously there was a very different position from the one that is being assumed at the moment.

“There was a certain complacency in relation to the incursion, including in the extension and habitat on the part of the Guyanese in the territory under claim, which should not have produced any attitude of acceptance towards this type of actions,” he explains.

The also president of the Copei Odca party in the entity comments that at that time there was a lack of forceful action, but if it is being done now it is appropriate to accompany any effort that seeks recognition and defense of Essequibo.

It mentions the companies that are exploiting the resources in the claimed area and that no type of incursion should be allowed until there is a certain definition of that territory.

“I think that the Guyanese are acting arbitrarily, allowing this type of license and exploitation of the wealth contained therein, without yet having a definition regarding that territory that certainly belongs to our country,” insists Vahlis.
