The “Langya virus” (Langya virus) has recently occurred in Shandong and Henan, China, which can be transmitted from animals to humans. 35 cases of infected people with acute symptoms have been found; Zhuang Renxiang, deputy director of the CDC, said that the CDC will now target this new virus. The virus has established a nucleic acid detection and sequencing method, and it is expected that the detection method can be developed within one week at the earliest. Physician Xie Zongxue said that the close relatives of the Langya virus are the “Nipah virus” with a fatality rate of 40%. Viruses with a high fatality rate are usually not too infectious, and called for “no need to fear.”

Xie Zongxue, an infectious disease physician and director of the Children’s Emergency Department of the Hospital Affiliated to Zhongshan Medical University, pointed out in a Facebook post that according to a new paper published by the international journal NEJM on the 4th, Langya virus belongs to the paramyxoviridae family, Hennebavirus genus, the most likely The natural host is the shrew, which looks a bit like a long-nosed rat.

Xie Zongxue said that according to 26 patients who were confirmed to be infected with Langya virus alone, it was found that the main symptoms included fever (100%), fatigue (54%), cough (50%), loss of appetite (50%), muscle aches (46%), Nausea (38%), headache (35%), vomiting (35%).

The main abnormal blood results were leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, liver function and renal function abnormalities. At present, it is speculated that the Langya virus can induce a fatal disease, and there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission, but the number of observed ethnic groups is too small and needs to be tracked in the future.

Xie Zong said that although Langya’s close relative is the Nipah virus with a fatality rate of 40%, its true fatality rate is unknown. If it is confirmed in the future or evolves into the ability of human-to-human transmission, like SARS, fever screening can be used to make preliminary judgments. Compared with the new coronary pneumonia with many asymptomatic patients, it is easier to block.

Xie Zongxue pointed out that such viruses with high fatality rate are usually not too infectious, and it is difficult to cause a world-class epidemic. He believes that at present, we only need to be cautious and do not need to fear, and Taiwan has experience in fighting SARS and new coronary pneumonia. “If the Langya virus really strikes, I believe we can deal with it calmly.”
