Coca-Cola’s Rs 3,000 Crore Investment in Gujarat and Entry into Alcohol Market: Latest Updates & News

Mumbai: Coca-Cola’s bottling arm, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd. to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Gujarat. Indian beverage maker Coca Cola India is reportedly planning to set up a beverage manufacturing and state-of-the-art facility in Gujarat.

They may start operations in 2026 in Rajkot, Gujarat. In a statement, HCCB said that the Government of Gujarat is providing all possible support and this will help in obtaining all necessary permissions, registrations, approvals and clearances in a timely manner.

HCCB has already started operations at Goblej in Kheda district and Sanand in Ahmedabad district. It is reported that the total number of employees of HCCB in the state will be around 3000. HCCB operates 16 factories across India. There HCCB manufactures 60 products across seven categories. For the financial year ended March 31, 2023, HCCB reported a revenue of Rs 12,735.12 crore.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola India is entering the domestic alcohol market for the first time. The company has launched Lemon-Dow, a globally recognized alcoholic ready-to-drink beverage, on a pilot basis in Goa and parts of Maharashtra.

Lemon-dough is a distilled spirit similar to brandy and vodka. The new move is a sign of diversification by Coca-Cola India, which has traditionally launched non-alcoholic products. Lemon-Dow is Coca-Cola’s first lemon sour brand.

Lemon-dough originated in Japan. Lemon-Dow is priced at Rs 230 for 250 ml. It belongs to the ‘Chuhai’ category of cocktails. It is also the first step in Coca-Cola’s plan to evolve into a fully-fledged beverages company.

Coca-Cola may partner with Pernod Ricard to launch a pre-mixed cocktail combining Absolut vodka and Sprite in 2024, starting in the UK, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany.
