Coeuve, a village in the Canton of Jura, will regain a general store in mid-May, authorities announced Tuesday. The shop will operate within the Restaurant du Boeuf, filling a void left by the closure of the village’s last commercial establishment nearly two years ago.
Alain Ribeaud will operate the new épicerie, and plans to offer postal services in addition to standard grocery items, replacing the village’s existing home delivery postal service. “For a village like ours, it’s very important to have a place to benefit from essential goods,” said Coeuve’s mayor, Pierre-Alain Henzelin, according to a statement released by the municipal authorities.
The reopening of a commercial space coincides with the nearing completion of a major municipal project, the renovation of the “Gros Verger” building. The project, which began three years ago following the approval of a 4.5 million franc credit, is expected to house a medical practice by the end of June, followed by eight apartments in October, a community hall, and new administrative offices for the commune of 730 residents.
The Restaurant du Boeuf, located on Route de Damphreux, is currently listed as offering lunch, dinner, and dessert options, as well as a bar service, according to restaurant listings. Alain Ribeaud and his wife, Frédérique Godinat, are listed as residents at Route d’Alle 68A in Coeuve, with a listed telephone number of 032 466 47 40. Marius Ribeaud is listed as the owner of the Restaurant du Boeuf.
