BOGOTÁ, Feb 14 (Archyde.com) – Colombia’s economy expanded by more than 10.2% in 2021, its highest level in recent history, President Iván Duque announced on Monday.

The data would marginally exceed the median that a recent Archyde.com poll showed, in which the market forecast an expansion of 10% for the fourth largest economy in Latin America, after a historical contraction of 6.8% in 2020 due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“In 2021, the Colombian economy grew by more than 10.2%, this means that we have achieved the highest economic growth in our republican history,” Duque said at an event from Brussels.

“This shows our resilience and it is very important to say that it is growth with sustainability,” added the president.

The state National Department of Statistics (DANE) will publish its official report on the behavior of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for last year on Tuesday.

According to analysts, the dynamism of the Colombian economy would have been explained by the consumption of households that had dammed savings during the worst of the pandemic, as well as strong fiscal spending by the Government and the impulse generated by historically high interest rates. low.

The Government has as a goal that the economy expand 5% in 2022, a figure higher than the 4.1% that the median of the Archyde.com poll showed.
