The Coltejer textile company reported to the Financial Superintendence that it filed a request for collective dismissal with the Ministry of Labor.
The communication does not specify the number of workers that would be affected in the event that the Ministry gives approval, but the action adds to the company’s determination not to reactivate its operations this year.
It is worth noting that since July of last year, Coltejer suspended all its productive activities, arguing difficulties derived from smuggling, the pandemic, and strikes.
Rigoberto Sánchez Guzmán, president of the subdirectorate of Sintracontexa Itagüí-Rionegro, said that weeks ago it had been known that the company was processing the request before the Labor portfolio. “After Easter there were a series of agreements between the workers and the company, to welcome a voluntary arrangement. About 45 people left, and at this time there would be about 60 who are the subject of this request for mass dismissal.
The union leader stated that he is expecting what will happen since a good part of the workers in the Coltejer workforce suffer from health problems and await a favorable contract termination agreement.
This year the breaches in the obligations with the workers have been recurrent, to whom a fortnight was canceled yesterday, but three others remain pending.
In 2021, the textile company’s revenue fell 77%, going from $74,815 million in 2020 to $16,911 million, while the loss totaled $120,923 million.
