Tomorrow, Thursday, the head of the Lebanese Pharmacists Syndicate, Dr. Joe Salloum, will visit the cultural center affiliated with the JAD Association – Youth Against Drugs in the town of Habboub – Jbeil, to participate in a meeting entitled “Where are the Captagon industries in Lebanon?”

Salloum, in an interview with “Lebanon Debate,” pointed out that “there is control over how neurological medications are dispensed, as the pharmacist cannot give them to the patient without a prescription. However, unfortunately, with the smuggled entry of neurological medications into Lebanon, those who do not have a prescription have begun to resort to To buy these medicines from the black market.

He considered that “this matter is very dangerous, and creates a kind of addiction,” noting that “tomorrow, during his visit to the JAD Foundation, he will talk about Captagon, and the importance of the state taking action regarding this issue, because what is happening is a scourge that is destroying our society and our youth.”

He believed that “the nerve and hypnotic drugs on the market fall within the same framework as Captagon, which is widely spread today.”

He pointed out that “the economic reality we are experiencing, and the high unemployment rate, are among the things that contribute to addiction, so the more we facilitate the availability of neurological medications and Captagon, the more the scourge will expand.”

In conclusion, Salloum stressed that “there is tight oversight over pharmacies, and there are referrals to disciplinary councils, even outside the scope of pharmacies. The Syndicate is in contact with the Financial and Appeals Public Prosecution in this regard, and I hope that the officials and authorities will do their part.”
