First community wedding held in Pontão, took place this Sunday (3)

One of Brasília’s postcards, it received the 8th edition of the community wedding. In 2023, 51 couples were included. The project is an initiative of the DF Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship (Sejus DF). Between 2020 and 2022, the Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship has already benefited 264 couples in the seven previous editions.

There were five stages until the moment of yes. First the registration, documentation analysis, publication of the result, and participation in the preparatory meeting and wedding ceremony. In addition, the couples were also able to participate in a rehearsal of the ceremony at the Museum of the Republic.

At the 2023 ceremony, there was a moment for each couple to sign the documents and say their yes. A duo from the DF Military Fire Department, composed of a guitar player and a saxophonist, performed the national anthem and the anthem of Brasília, at the opening of the community wedding. 79 couples were pre-selected. The requirements for registration and selection included: living in DF; be hyposufficient; present all documentation provided for in the notice; be at least 18 years old and have no legal impediment to marry, in accordance with article 1,521 of the Civil Code.

Getting married has always been the dream of supermarket operator Thalita de Lima, 26, and Marley do Nascimento, 26, self-employed. The couple has been together for 12 years. It was through an event in Ceilândia that Marley found out about the community marriage project. “My colleague already said: there’s going to be a wedding, you’re going to get married, we’re going to go to your house and get things.” They had been looking for a way to get married for a long time, but it never worked out. “And then this opportunity for community marriage came, and it was a rush.”

Marley believes it is a great opportunity to get married at Pontão do Lago. “It’s not just anywhere, we were privileged this year.” Thalita’s heart was racing for the big moment, and she couldn’t even sleep the night before. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the day, Marley only had attention for his bride, and dedicated his concern to ensuring that she looked flawless for the big moment. “Every day he is attentive to me like this.” She describes that first of all, he was her best friend, he was her first boyfriend. “So to this day we are together. The opportunity has arrived and we are getting married now”, she concludes.

Together for ten years, Paula Odnesia Gomes-Porfírio, 45 years old, day laborer, and Rinalldy César Piero, say that in the end, it worked out to make this dream come true, despite the difficulties they faced to get here. “We were unsure if it would work, if we would be called, anyway, right? But thank God everything worked out”, commented Paula. For her everything was wonderful, perfect. “Princess day too, everything was perfect.” Rinalldy was already anxious. “Everything is new, even after ten years together.” The two already have children from other relationships, and now, they hope to enjoy adulthood together.

Patrícia Nery, 37, nurse and Pedro Nery, a public servant, are experiencing their second chance at love. Patrica considers that their story together is a great testimony of overcoming. “We met with our theme: I take care of you and you take care of me. And we’ve been together for a year and four months.”

She explains that the opportunity for marriage arose, and that they are both Christians. “When he came into my house, he played that song: A new story in the mind and in the heart.” They’ve both been through a lot of disappointment with their past relationships, and now they’re going to have the chance to get married for the first time. “We are even going to celebrate the wedding, with a ceremony in the church later this month”, said Patrícia. “I’ve never been married, I’ve never even wanted to before. But now, between him and me it was love at first sight.”

The department’s secretary, Marcela Passamani, considers this an exciting day. This was the first community wedding held in Pontão do Lago. “And imagine that we would have 51 couples in the eighth edition of the community wedding getting married at Pontão. A more iconic, more stunning place to take photos of brides.” Patrícia states that Sejus dedicated a lot to make this moment, the most important moment of yes for these 50 couples, happen.

She pointed out that this is a guarantee of rights. “We are regulating the situation, be it for some people who have been together for a long time, people who have this desire to start their lives”, she emphasizes. For her, this is citizenship, showing that everyone is equal from the starting point. “I met some people who said: wow, I already worked with someone who took photos here. And I said, we are all equal and today is your day as a princess.”

The project was carried out through partnerships, and the brides had a princess day complete with makeup, where they received dresses and everything they deserved. They got ready at Senac. The bride and groom also received suits and a place to get ready. The dresses, the flowers, the makeup, it was all a partnership, without public expense, as the secretariat highlighted.
