Connacht Names Niall Murray for 100th Appearance Against Leinster

Connacht hosts Leinster at Dexcom Stadium on Friday evening in a BKT United Rugby Championship interprovincial clash. Niall Murray has been named among the replacements by head coach Stuart Lancaster as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for the western province.

Friday night marks a significant milestone for Brideswell native Niall Murray as he prepares to run out for his century of appearances in a Connacht jersey. The lock is named among the replacements for the BKT United Rugby Championship fixture at Dexcom Stadium, which kicks off at 7:45 p.m.

Squad Changes and Selection Headaches for Lancaster

Head coach Stuart Lancaster and his staff have adjusted the lineup following last week’s victory over Zebre. Only three players retain their starting spots from that fixture: Finlay Bealham, Paul Boyle, and Cathal Forde. Squad depth has become an immediate priority for the coaching ticket, with a substantial player shortage affecting availability for the interpro battle.

We’ve 13 players unavailable between internationals and injury, but we’ve put a big emphasis on building squad depth, particularly for occasions like this. For a few players, it’ll be their first experience of an interpro, but I know they will give their all in what I am sure will be another amazing atmosphere.

Alongside Murray, South Roscommon native and scrum-half Colm Reilly also takes his place among the replacements. Meanwhile, the Murray family rugby footprint extends further afield, as Niall’s younger brother, Darragh, remains in camp with the Irish squad preparing for upcoming November international fixtures against Argentina, Fiji, and South Africa.

The Stakes at Dexcom Stadium

Anticipation is high in the west as Connacht prepares to play in front of an expected home crowd of 12,000 supporters. Lancaster emphasized the importance of closing out the current block of matches on a strong note against formidable provincial rivals.

Tomorrow is a big day for a few reasons, but above, all else, it’s a great opportunity to finish the block on a high. We know what’s at stake and the challenge ahead of us, but I can see the progress we’re making each week, and having 12,000 Connacht fans behind us will be a big boost too.
