Consumer confidence in the euro area falls to the lowest level

Figures published on Wednesday showed that consumer confidence in the euro zone fell 3.2 points in July from the previous month, its lowest level since records began.

The European Commission said the preliminary reading of its consumer sentiment index fell to -27.0 this month from a revised -23.8 in June.

Economists polled by (Archyde.com) had expected the index to fall to -24.9.

In the European Union as a whole, consumer sentiment fell 3.0 points to -27.3. (Archyde.com)
