Consumer prices continue their mad race: the index rose by 1.9% in one month

Consumer prices rose by 1.9% in one month in Guyana according to an INSEE survey published this week. This increase follows several increases over the past 12 months.

After a 1% increase in June 2022, the increase in consumer prices continued to rise in July with 1.9% and concerned most sectors.

For instance, food prices rose 0.8% in July after rising 1.1% in July. Over the previous 3 months, it’s 2.5% and 6.2% over fourteen months.

Energy prices are also on the rise : from 1.4% increase to 3.9% in June. In question, the rise in the price of road fuels, +8.4% for diesel and +1.9% for unleaded gasoline and conversely, the bottle of gas decreased over the month of July by 6, 9%.

The price index is calculated only on the island of Cayenne. We cannot compare with the other communes of the department. What we can say is that the increase is stronger here than in the West Indies. We are more aligned with the prices set in France.

Service prices also continue to increase, driven by the prices of transport services, which rose from +1.4% in June to +3.1% in July.

The prices of manufactured goods remain globally stable for this month of July.

Over 3 months, prices in this sector continue their inflation of +0.4% and +1.6% over the previous fourteen months.
