Russian market » Coop, through its subsidiary Transgourmet, as well as Geberit, are withdrawing completely from Russia.

Subsidiary of the distribution giant Coop, Transgourmet announced yesterday that it would end all its commercial activities in the Russian Federation. “The activities (of the subsidiaries) Selgros and Global Foods in the country are maintained in the context of a management buyout” in order to “give perspective” to the workforce concerned.

The transaction must still receive the approval of the Russian competition authorities, underlines the wholesaler belonging to the Coop group in its press release, indicating that “other information will follow”.

The turnover generated in Russia was around 110 million francs, a spokeswoman told AWP. “It is thus only a small part compared to the 9.1 billion released by the whole group” Transgourmet, she pointed out.

On the other hand, the bathroom equipment manufacturer Geberit also announced yesterday the suspension of its activity in Russia, however refraining from mentioning in its brief position paper the motivations behind this decision. The salaries of the seventy sellers concerned will continue to be paid.

The St. Gallen multinational has already interrupted its activities in Ukraine at the beginning of March, notably shutting down its ceramics factory in Slavuta and its 500 employees. ats
