Crans-Montana plans temporary remembrance spaces for victims

One year after the tragic fire at the Le Constellation bar that claimed 41 lives and left 115 injured, the Valais commune of Crans-Montana is moving forward with plans to establish two temporary spaces of remembrance. According to 20min.ch, the municipality announced on Monday that it has placed two provisional memorial projects into public inquiry in October as it prepares to honor the victims ahead of the upcoming anniversary.

The first temporary installation will be situated directly in front of the Le Constellation bar. Municipal councillor Marielle Clivaz stated that the project involves outfitting the building’s facade with a hoarding and a temporary roof to protect the site and present a sober, respectful appearance. Families who wish to do so will be permitted to have the names of their deceased loved ones inscribed on the structure. A few minutes away near the Saint-Christopher chapel, the Scandia location will host a winter-adapted, covered space allowing visitors and families to leave tributes and personal items, with photographs and names also permitted to be displayed. Both sites are intended to serve as provisional spaces until a definitive memorial is constructed under the direction of the Association Mémorial Crans-Montana 2026, as reported by Le Matin.

Official Commemorative Ceremonies And Tributes

In addition to the physical spaces, the Canton of Valais is organizing an official anniversary ceremony scheduled for January 1 at 10:00 in Grône. This event will be broadcast live at the Le Régent Congress Centre in Crans-Montana. Further tributes in the commune will include a silent starry lighting scenography on Lake Grenon without music or sound effects, operating from 21:00 to 2:00 during the nights of December 31 and January 1 to mark the transition toward 2027.
