A crazy match in the French League between Lyon and Montpellier.
In perhaps one of the craziest matches in the history of French football, Lyon defeated Montpellier 5-4, in the match that was held at the “Parc Olympique Lyonnais” stadium for the 34th round of the French League 2022-23.
The strange thing about the match is that despite scoring nine goals from both sides, only three players succeeded in scoring.
Montpellier managed to finish the first half with a 2-1 lead, after Elie Wahi scored a brace in two minutes in response to Alexandre Lacazette’s goal, which came in the 31st minute of the match.
Wahi added two more goals in the first minutes of the second half, giving his team a comfortable 4-1 lead, and giving himself a “super hat-trick” in the match.
But Diane Lovren managed to adjust the score in favor of Lyon in the 70th minute, after Lacazette scored the third goal for the home side in the 59th minute.
Lacazette was able to add two more goals in the 82nd and 90 + 9 minutes from a penalty kick, to give his team victory points in the exciting match, and in turn score a “super hat-trick” in response to Elie Wahi.
Lacazette’s quartet took him to the top of the French League’s top scorer rankings, equally with Kylian Mbappe, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, as each of them now has 24 goals, while Wahi raised his tally this season to 17 goals in the French League.
