Fix what was broken

Did you just break a bowl, cup or plate? Don’t throw it away right away, because according to the Japanese theory of beauty, traces of flaws and repairs contribute to the beauty of an object. THE kintsugi is an ancestral technique which consists of repairing a ceramic object by highlighting its fault lines with a gold or silver lacquer instead of trying to hide them.

For this DIY, you need a broken ceramic/porcelain, a container or cardboard, gold paint, two-component glue (stronger and more durable), and a brush.

How to proceed?

Dust off the broken pieces using a brush. Reassemble the object by placing the shards in a logical order so that you can glue them back together. Mix the paint with the glue. Be careful, be quick, because the glue can only be used for five minutes, so you have to work quickly or in stages. Take a broken piece and spread the mixture on one side. Press the broken part firmly onto the object and hold it for at least twenty minutes. It takes about an hour for the glue to fully harden.

Please note, due to the use of glue and paint, the tableware is no longer suitable for holding food or drinks. Instead, use it as a decorative item.
