“DAF Construction Range: Complete with XDC and XFC Models and Ready-to-Go Bodywork for Spring 2023”

It was announced since last winter, so here are the available Construction ranges for DAF XDC and XFC, in addition to the 6×4 and 8×4 road silhouettes for the DAF XD, XF, XG and XG+. Now, the New Generation is complete in terms of diesel engines. The presentation was made during a press trip last week. TRM24 was there.

DAF is claiming a dazzling start commercially with more than 80,000 cumulative orders since the launch of the so-called New Generation range at the end of 2021. Recent developments relate to the extension of the offer to the DAF XDC and XFC construction site and construction approach versions. . The offer therefore includes in Construction 4×2 tractors (code FT at DAF), 4×2 rigids (FA) plus 6×4 tractors (FTT), 6×4 rigids (FAT) and 8×4 rigids ( ADF). A segment that should enable DAF Trucks France to see its share of truck registrations increase, as this is now where the biggest source of commercial growth lies. This explains the availability from spring 2023 of DAF models with “ready to go” bodywork. In the construction range, two-way tippers are concerned with bodybuilders CIF, Meiller and Forez Bennes. For hydraulic arms, in 6×2, 6×4 and 8×4 the offer includes Palfinger, Dalby or Marrel equipment. In the 6×4 flatbed silhouette with crane or crane and twin tipper, the “ready to go” offer includes Palfinger or CIF bodywork associated with HIAB.

To the construction ranges approved “off road” (up to 40cm of ground clearance depending on the axles and pneumatic tires, minimum angles of attack of 25°, complete clearance between the pairs of axles of a 4 axle) is added an intermediate “road” approved offer (in particular at the level of the underride bar): the so-called Extra Robust finish which concerns the DAF XD and XF and available on the Day Cab, Sleeper Cab, Sleeper High Cab. This build includes cosmetics and a 3-piece steel bumper. Technically, only the radiator protection is reinforced. Only the so-called Low Deck versions are not eligible for these Extra Robust finishes; which means that all figures with normal height can benefit from this equipment. In fact, it is in profile that we see the difference, with a prognathic-looking bumper incorporating recessed LED fog lights (therefore better protected). The 6×4 and 8×4 rigid and tractor versions can benefit from it (front axles of 8, 9 or 10 tonnes plus tandem 21 or 26 tonnes with single or double reduction, pneumatic or pneumatic suspension). For all 4 axles, it is possible to order a FAW-coded rear tridem carrier silhouette from DAF. A 4-axle tractor coded FTM is proposed, it will be a silhouette probably appreciated in exceptional transport. It is approved by DAF Trucks France up to 120t GCW without restriction of use. The FAW, FTM silhouettes and the newly introduced 6×4 FTT tractors in the catalog are also available with the large XG and XG+ cabs.

From seven-league boots to construction boots

The 2-axle Construction ranges are offered in XDC and XFD with 4×2 silhouettes, but also in a new version with reinforced traction and hydraulic drive of the steering axle (only on the model with a straight front axle). A work carried out by the German Paul PXP using Poclain Hydraulics hydraulic motors. The drive, which must be pre-selected via a button on the dashboard, is active in the first 4 forward gears and the 2 reverse gears, up to approximately 20 km/h. The hydraulic pump is driven by the engine and not by the gearbox. DAF Construction vehicles are all available with DAF MX-11 and MX-13 engines with 8 or 9 tonne front axles and 11.5 and 13 tonne rear axles. The 4-axle silhouettes can have a rear tandem of only 19 tons (to optimize the payload of a mixer for example) as well as double reduction axles (for the most severe uses). All with mechanical or pneumatic suspension at the rear. For certain markets (the Netherlands, Ireland or Switzerland) a 5-axle conversion is also offered with a DAF HR1670 tandem with double reduction and air suspension while the three steered front axles are DAF 187N with 10 tonnes capacity. The PTAC of this unusual version is 49 tonnes for a payload of 30 tonnes. Note that the DAF HR1670T axle exists with drum brakes.

The ZF TraXon gearbox has a “construction” mode on the Construction models allowing faster action on the clutch, gear changes and continuous application of the engine brake. A switch allows you to neutralize the ASR traction control, which is useful on soft ground. A rocking mode (called “rock free” at DAF) and a setting allowing the vehicle to crawl, even with the robotic gearbox (“urge to move” in DAF language) are appearing on “off road” approved models. There is therefore no longer a manual gearbox in the construction range on the New Generation DAF. The automatic gearbox with Allison transmission is only available on DAF XD with MX-11 engine of 300 or 340hp. We guess that it is mainly for BOM applications or urban deliveries that this option is proposed. Various power take-offs are now available in the catalogue.

All these new products are open for orders and available for delivery.
