The ministerial consultative meeting that was held in Diman at the invitation of Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a statement stating:
His Excellency the Prime Minister and the attending ministers thank His Beatitude and Eminence, Patriarch Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East of the Maronites, for hosting this consultative meeting in this edifice, which was the first nucleus of the idea of Greater Lebanon. They express their deep appreciation for the symbolism of this place and its national dimension. And spiritual, and for the status of his master and his advanced role in the reunification of the Lebanese family, and they value what this added to the atmosphere of the deliberations that took place and the content of the conclusions reached in this meeting.
The statement added: “Our homeland, Lebanon, is passing through one of the most dangerous stages of its history, full of well-known political, economic, financial and living crises and challenges, to which is added another crisis of an entity nature related to the essence of its existence and its civilized role on the level of all humanity. This small country has been given a great blessing.” It is for it to be a meeting place for those who seek peace, security, freedom and a decent life.The Lebanese formula came to perpetuate these values within a framework of coexistence, preserving diversity within unity, and imposing respect for the different other, loving him as he is, not being afraid of him, and integrating with him to achieve a harmonious and solidarity society. Which leads to building a modern, just and strong state, rich in its unity and the breadth of culture of its citizens.
All Lebanese are called upon to protect this formula by consolidating our belonging to our unifying national identity, working to strengthen unity through diversity, and abandoning calls to disavow the other, whatever their titles may be.
As we have seen these days, on official and unofficial levels, the vocabulary of a discourse camouflaged with propaganda of modernity, freedom and human rights, which contradicts the religious and moral values that are at the core of our psychological, spiritual and social formation.
This speech constitutes a clear violation of the text and spirit of Articles 9 and 10 of the Lebanese constitution. The responsibility to confront this discourse rests with everyone without exception, including religious references, political and judicial authorities, educational and media institutions, and civil society forces, because we refuse to let our children’s present be distorted, so that their future does not become distorted.”
And the statement continued: “In light of all this, the consultative meeting between the ministers held in Diman, in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, concluded the following:
First: The necessity of expediting the election of a President of the Republic who will lead the rescue and recovery process, as there is no way for any work to be organized in the absence of the Head of State.
Second: Calling on all political forces to cling to the Taif Agreement and the Coexistence Pact, and to abandon everything that might lead to prejudice to the unique Lebanese formula.
Third: Calling on all authorities, private and official educational and media institutions, living civil society forces, and the Lebanese people with all their affiliations, to cling to the national identity, its public morals and morals inherited from generation to generation, and its faith values, especially the value and protection of the family, and to confront ideas that contradict the Creator’s system and the principles that unite The Lebanese have it.
Fourth: Inviting citizens to a permanent life dialogue between them, so that every citizen seeks to reassure his brother and partner in the homeland of his thought, his presence, his rights, and the effectiveness of his national belonging.
Fifth: Sincere cooperation between all Lebanese components to crystallize a unified position on the Syrian displacement crisis in Lebanon, and cooperation with the Syrian state and the international community to resolve this issue in a way that preserves Lebanon’s unity and identity.
His Beatitude renewed his appreciation for the efforts of the Prime Minister and all the ministers in passing this difficult stage while preserving the provisions of the Constitution.
In conclusion, the conferees renewed their thanks to His Beatitude for hosting them. They also renewed their dependence on him, this edifice, and other spiritual leaders to help make the Council of Ministers’ endeavor to preserve diversity and the principle of coexistence a success, and to protect the moral and faith values that form the cornerstone of the Lebanese entity.
