Daniel Ortega called Gabriel Boric a “lapdog”, accusing him of seeking the approval of the United States and forgetting about the political prisoners in Chile when criticizing Nicaragua before the United Nations General Assembly.
The president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortegacalled this Wednesday “lapdog” to his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, and “poor black” to the main person in charge of the United States Department of State for Latin America, Brian Nichols, for demanding the release of political prisoners in the Central American country.
During an act on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the National Police and broadcast on radio and television, Ortega said that “it has become fashionable” to ask in international forums to release the “political prisoners” of Nicaragua, and mentioned specifically the case of the Chilean president who did so during the UN General Assembly.
“The government that wants to receive applause from the Yankee empire (USA) and from some governments of the European Union go there, like lapdogs, to talk about the need to release the political prisoners in Nicaragua,” criticized the Sandinista leader.
According to Ortega, those same “forget the political prisoners they have in their country”, in Chile, where he said, “the Constitution that dictator Augusto Pinochet left behind” continues.
“There he suddenly comes out (Boric demanding the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua) and has a number of prisoners from the previous government, of young people who protested in the streets looking for a profound change” in Chile, he said.
The Sandinista president therefore questioned Boric’s authority to demand the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua.
“As if there were only prisoners in Nicaragua! They have a glass roof. They have prisoners in their house. They have a constitutional coup regime, a terrorist, and they speak in that way,” Ortega reproached, sarcastically asking Boric to “stop telling chiles (jokes) or jokes when he is mounted on the foundations of a dictatorship and a Pinochet tyranny that exerts the repression against students.
During the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations, Boric made a call to “contribute” to the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua.
According to data endorsed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), currently in Nicaragua there are more than 200 political prisoners, as a product of the sociopolitical crisis that broke out in April 2018.

Likewise, Ortega said that “other voices in Latin America,” which he did not specify, have also demanded the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua, but “those who have the leading voice is the Yankee empire, which is the one that has committed the greatest crimes in the history of mankind.

The main person in charge of the US Department of State for Latin America has demanded that Ortega release political prisoners and return Nicaragua to democracy.
Nicaragua has been going through a political and social crisis since April 2018, which has been accentuated after the controversial general elections on November 7, in which Ortega was re-elected for a fifth term, fourth consecutive and second along with his wife, Rosario Murillo, as vice president, with her main contenders in prison.
Ortega, close to turning 77, has been in power for 15 years and 7 consecutive months, amid allegations of authoritarianism and electoral fraud, He has branded the imprisoned opponents as “traitors to the country”, “criminals” and “sons of bitches of the Yankee imperialists”.
