Dart Probe Successfully Impacts Asteroid Dismorphos in Exercise to Protect Earth

The asteroid, named Dimorphos, was a 160-meter rock that did not represent a risk to the earth, and the idea was that the Dart spacecraft would alter the orbit of the celestial body, as a rehearsal for a possible threat to Earth, in the style of the movie ‘Armageddon’, starring Bruce Willis. Dart, which stands for Double Asteroid Redirection Test, was launched into space on November 24, 2021, at a cost of $325 million.
