Deion Sanders Offered Critics $50,000 to Stop Talking About Him, Claims Insider

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders faces a fresh wave of scrutiny after his long-time personal videographer claimed on a weekend livestream that the football program leader once offered critics $50,000 each to cease their negative coverage.

Inside Uncle Neely’s Broadcast Claims on BuffBoys Live

Christopher Neely, widely known on social media as “Uncle Neely,” dropped the anecdote during an appearance on the college football show BuffBoys Live on October 26. Describing how online commentators monetize their attacks against him, Neely explained that the coach allegedly attempted to buy out his loudest detractors.

“For the most part, the people that attack him wouldn’t be making the money they were making if he wasn’t here to attack,” Neely stated during the broadcast. “Which is why he told some of them, ‘Hey man, let’s just do this. I give you $50,000 to not mention my name for a year.’ And ain’t nobody took the deal yet.” Neely added to his remarks by saying, “And you love talking about this man so much, and you make so much talking of this man that you turned the deal down.”

Neely framed the remarks to highlight a perceived double standard in sports media rather than as a formal accusation of wrongdoing. Sanders has neither publicly confirmed nor denied the contention, and no public record exists to substantiate the payout offer.

Neely’s professional relationship with Sanders spans several years. A Jackson State alumnus, Neely began working as a behind-the-scenes videographer for the coach in 2020 before following him to Boulder in late 2022 when he took the helm at Colorado. Records show that Neely is associated with a wing of the Historically Black College and University (HBCU)-Pro Sports Media Association.

Neely also defended the head coach during the livestream, stating, The truth always needs defending, and adding, Just because you see a dog walking around with eight arrows in him don’t mean them arrows ain’t hurting… So when people run out there talking negative and unjustified about this courageous Black man, and y’all want to sit up and think it’s funny, I don’t hang with people like that.

Mounting On-Field Pressures and Boulder Collapses

The timing of the podcast remarks compounds an already volatile stretch for the head coach. The Colorado Buffaloes are currently mired in a five-game losing streak, sitting at the bottom of the Big 12 with an 0-4 conference record and a 2-5 overall standing.

The spiral intensified following a 57-24 loss to Oklahoma State, a game in which Colorado squandered an early lead after giving up 34 unanswered points in the second half. Offensive struggles plagued the team as running backs managed just 42 yards on 15 carries—averaging a meager 2.8 yards per attempt.

Postgame remarks from the coach drew sharp rebukes from local media analysts. The mounting losses and friction have drawn sharp commentary from regional figures, including Denver Sports 104.3 analyst Jake Shapiro, who posted on X calling for a coaching change in Boulder following a season that mirrors the program’s late-season collapse in 2025:

Pack your bags, Deion Sanders; it’s time you get out of Boulder, Colorado, Shapiro wrote on X. Thanks for trying! Calling you “Coach Prime” is an insult to real college coaches. Time for the Buffs to find somebody committed to the program and not desperately chase a brand.
