An employee of Delhaize Westland in Anderlecht was served this Thursday morning with his dismissal for serious misconduct. The management reproaches him for his violent attitude, Monday, during the works council organized in Zellik: on images, we see the man knocking on a glass door which then yields. Twenty workers from Delhaize Westland in Anderlecht came out to protest and support their colleague, who has been in the company for 30 years. “There are only students and the manager inside,” says Didier Cappelle, itinerant delegate for the CNE in the Brussels region.

The Christian union formally opposes this dismissal, which it finds disproportionate to the facts of which the worker is accused. “This employee received a letter from a bailiff last night, he was summoned this Thursday morning and was told of his dismissal for serious misconduct. We are talking about endangering others, harm to physical integrity because a security guard was injured in the hand. Let’s be clear: yes there is violent behavior, but the workers are exasperated, exhausted.

And to continue: “Since March 7, the management of Delhaize has shown contempt. This Monday, some may have slipped, and we expected a sanction. But we had never seen such a sanction for such facts before March 7. On the images, we see this worker pushing the door but before him, others had knocked on it, which meant that it was already weakened. The glass has never broken. Everything was fixed in a quarter of an hour. Management is clearly trying to put pressure on and break up the movement. This worker has received no reprimand or sanction in 30 years of service. We could have accepted a day of layoff, for example. Here, it’s too much! We are going to file a complaint with the labor court”.
