Dell launches new XPS 2-in-1 tablet | Informatic direction

Dell adds the XPS 13 2-in-1 tablet computer to its high-end XPS line.

The new 2022 XPS 13 2-in-1 ditches the old swivel keyboard style and instead adopts a tablet computer style with a fully detachable keyboard. Designed to be portable, the XPS 2-in-1 with 13-inch display is 7.8mm thin and weighs just 736g on its own. Adding the XPS Folio Magnetic Keyboard Case adds another 560g, bringing its total weight to 1386g.

At the display level, the new XPS 2-in-1 uses an HDR-certified 13-inch 3K touchscreen with a brightness between 400 and 500 nit. It is made of tough Gorilla Glass Victus with an anti-reflective and anti-smudge coating. The display also supports the XPS Stylus active pen.

The XPS 2-in-1 uses Intel’s 12th Gen Core i5 and i7 processors combined with up to 16GB of LPDD4x memory. PCIe 4 SSD storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

XPS Pen and Folio Keyboard Case are sold separately. The XPS Folio case features Dell’s Zero-Lattice keyboard with 1mm travel, full backlighting, and a Windows Hello fingerprint power button. The Folio Keyboard Case cover can prop the XPS 2-in-1 at one of three angles to improve ergonomics. The pen and keyboard attach magnetically.

Despite its thinness, the XPS 2-in-1 still comes with a 48.5 Wh battery.

To facilitate remote work, it has a 1080p front camera and also has an 11MP rear camera.

The XPS 2-in-1 comes with two USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 combo ports. They can be used for both charging and data, so a docking station is likely needed for a full desktop setup with many accessories. And although the device no longer includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, Dell includes an adapter that converts one of the USB ports into such a jack.

Pricing for the new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 starts at CA$1,449 including keyboard case and is available today. The Wi-Fi model launches first, with the 5G model arriving at a later date. The XPS stylus is available for an additional $125 CAD.
