DeMarcus Johnson-Wright arrested for murder of April Dawn Ballo-Celia

A brutal homicide in Pineville, Kentucky, has drawn regional law enforcement into a multi-state manhunt after investigators discovered a murdered 41-year-old mother’s unborn child was missing from the scene, according to reports in late September. April Dawn Ballo-Celia was found dead inside a residence on the 300 block of George Martin Boulevard following a violent assault. Local authorities, responding to an emergency call, confirmed her death alongside the Bell County Coroner’s Office.

From a Violent Crime Scene to Missing Remains

The investigation took a harrowing turn during the subsequent autopsy conducted by the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office. Examiners established that Ballo-Celia’s uterus was empty, prompting a meticulous re-examination of the crime scene. Investigators recovered unidentified human remains that preliminary forensic analysis indicates belong to the missing fetus, elevating the gravity of an already severe criminal case.

Bell County judicial officials moved swiftly as evidence accumulated. In late September, a district court judge issued an initial arrest warrant charging Demarcus Kenneth Johnson-Wright with first-degree robbery and kidnapping. As forensic teams and detectives processed further details from the George Martin Boulevard property, prosecutors expanded the legal scope. By the end of September, the court filed additional warrants charging Johnson-Wright with domestic-related murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Cross-State Tracking and Arrest in Tennessee

Tracing the suspect required coordinating law enforcement agencies across state lines. Investigators tracked Johnson-Wright to Clarksville, Tennessee, situated more than 250 miles southwest of the Pineville crime scene. A joint tactical unit comprising federal operatives, state troopers, and local police descended upon his Clarksville residence in late September, executing the arrest without reported incident.

Johnson-Wright was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Center in Tennessee, where he awaits extradition back to Bell County, Kentucky, to face formal prosecution.

A Family Left Grieving

The sudden and violent loss has devastated Ballo-Celia’s relatives. Family notices describe the 41-year-old mother as deeply devoted to her husband, Antonio, and her three children: Kayden Alexander Ilacheta, Alena Sophia Celia, and Nicholas Antonio Celia.
