Since the start of the year, 258 cases of dengue fever have been recorded, more than half of which in the south of the island and more precisely Saint-Joseph. However, health authorities note a gradual increase in the dispersion of cases throughout the territory, particularly in the East. Last year, only 53 cases had been reported as of March 16 for 2023. It is for this reason that Grard Cotellon, director general of the ARS, in agreement with the prefect Jerme Filippini, decided on Friday March 22 to activate the level “intensification of indigenous viral circulation in anticipation of an evolution towards an epidemic“of the ORSEC system.”The prefect and the general director of the ARS wish to strengthen prevention messages to the population and mobilize all municipal and inter-municipal actors: the commitment of everyone is essential to avoid a resumption of the dengu epidemic.e”, underlines the ARS.
Particular vigilance is recommended for travelers returning from Mauritius or Rodrigues where the circulation of the virus is very active. “Reunionese returning from vacation from this destination are therefore called for the greatest vigilance and are invited to consult their doctor as soon as symptoms appear.”, concludes the press release from the regional health agency.
