This is what he revealed to the media Buzzfeed Canada during an interview as part of the Montreal premiere of his film, on February 28.

The famous director indicates that he tried to slip this swear word into one of the two films in order to please his Quebec admirers.

“I was convinced that if I managed to slip the word “tabarnak” into one of the films, it would please the people of Montreal,” says Denis Villeneuve.

He even went so far as to ask actor Josh Brolin, who plays the character Gurney Halleck in both parts of “Dune,” to try to incorporate it into his dialogue.

“I asked him to use it at one point, but it didn’t work,” the director continues. The word doesn’t come off well from an American’s mouth. So sorry, I failed.”

The film “Dune: Part II” began its first weekend in theaters with a bang at the North American Box Office, grossing US$81.5 million.

It is the film that grossed the most during its first weekend in theaters in 2024.
