Denmark ends all coronavirus restrictions

Denmark eliminated this Tuesday all the restrictions imposed by the fourth wave of coronavirus, because its authorities consider that the omicron variant does not imply a “danger” for its health or its inhabitants and despite the high levels of incidence registered in the Nordic country.

from this Tuesday no longer required to use masks indoor, restrictions on restaurants, cultural and social life have disappeared and nightclubs reopen.

The covid-19 no longer considered a “critical illness” and, therefore, the restrictions are also removed for large events.

Denmark thus becomes the first country in the European Union (EU) to lift all measures against the pandemic, as happened last September, although a few months later it began to reintroduce them as a result of the spread of the omicron variant.

Currently the weekly incidence is still very high –5,000 cases in 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants– but the high rate of citizens with the dose of soda -over 60%- allows, in the opinion of your government, to take that step.

“We are ready to get out of the shadow of the coronavirus, we say goodbye to the restrictions and welcome the life we had before. The pandemic continues, but we have passed the critical stage,” announced last week at a press conference the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

denmark is one of the countries in the world where more tests are practiced. Between 30% and 40% of those admitted with covid-19 are people who were hospitalized for other reasons and who later tested positive for coronavirus.

The Danish authorities expect the high contagion to continue for a few weeks, but they believe it is disproportionate to maintain the restrictions.

Despite the increase in deaths from covid-19 in the last month and a half, Denmark still has one of the lowest mortality rates in Europe, with 62.59 per 100,000 inhabitants, three times less than countries such as Spain, Portugal or France.
