Denuvo DRM anti-piracy software is coming to Nintendo Switch

We know that Nintendo is intransigent until the absurd when it comes to protecting its IP. And we say this clearly because you don’t care about tearing down the pages that distribute your valuable software profiting, like emotional, self-sacrificing tributes raised out of thin air with much love by your own fans. We agree with the first, but not at all with the second.

Denuvo DRM anti-piracy software is coming to Nintendo Switch

Switch protects its digital walls

Piracy has always been a scourge for the cultural industry. Cinematographic, literary, musical… Video games are no exception, and Nintendo, with its imposing importance in the industry, has always been its victim and target.

Denuvo is popular software used to combat illegal downloads of PC games from the Internet. Well, it has been made public that it will come to Switch with the same purpose. The news should be positive, after all it is good for the industry and the consumer. The fact is that the side effects of applying DRM are known, i.e. poor game performance which in the case of the PC resulted in problems for users who had legally purchased the game. Obviously, this seems intolerable to us. The company owes itself to the user because it has its raison d’être within itself. You cannot betray him, question him, complicate his enjoyment of your product.

At MeristStation, we have the strange belief that people should be paid for their work. Piracy benefits the “clever”, the mafia, the crooks, leaving the creator defenseless and without seeing a euro for his hard work. From there, we are not criticizing Nintendo’s decision to reinforce its borders, we are alienated in that. We are against methods that harm the loyal user who keeps them in the privileged place they currently occupy.
