Despite new agreement: Banking center closes

It ignited hope among many bank players, when the Ministry of Taxation could announce that a new agreement makes it possible for local bank associations to continue with the game.

And several associations have come out and are happy about the agreement.

But for North Jutland’s largest bank center, Bankocenter Danmark on Lundeborgvej in Aalborg East, the new agreement has no meaning.

The center is closing – as the owners have previously announced.

This is what Niels Winther, chairman of the Støtteforeningen Idrætsvenner, tells us.

– Unfortunately, nothing has changed. It is the same as previously announced by the Ministry of Taxation, says a sly Niels Winther.

– I have been in contact with our lawyer in the industry organization Bankoforeningerne i Danmark (BFID), and here is the message that nothing has changed compared to before, so we are a bit confused that so many people are cheering that the tax ministry is reporting the same rules as before, says Niels Winther.

The only change from the previous announcements is that the limit at which associations must pay out 15 percent of the sales price for non-profit purposes has been moved from three to five million kroner.

On Wednesday, there were several media that reproduced rules from the Ministry of Taxation incorrectly.

Among other things, several articles stated: “If there is a profit of up to DKK 5 million, associations – for example the local banking club – must give a minimum of 15 percent to charity”.

It was not correct, as it is not about “profit up to DKK 5 million” but “turnover up to DKK 5 million”.

Unfortunately, it cannot be otherwise

New rules or not, the plan is still for the banking center in Aalborg East, where the turnover is approximately DKK 10 million per year, to close.

– Unfortunately, it cannot be otherwise. With the rules that have been announced, we have to pay out 35 percent for non-profit purposes, and when today we use 85 percent of the turnover for profits, the calculation does not add up, says Niels Winther.

It was the six associations behind the Støtteforeningen Idrætsvenner, which in 1988 started with the banko game.

There are games six days a week, and the profit means that the six associations behind get approximately DKK 100,000 a year.

There are many who will miss the game.

Time not determined

It has not been decided when the banking center in Aalborg East will close.

The buildings at Lundeborgvej 1 have been put up for sale for DKK 7.75 million, and when they are sold, Støtteforeningen Idrætsvenner expects that there will be a three-month takeover, during which the last games will be played.

Niels Winther expects that the sale of the building will go fairly quickly, but if it doesn’t happen, then the banking game will stop in any case by the New Year.
