Lekkas for Istanbul: Why there must be an earthquake immediately – 2024-04-17 23:04:34

The claim of Mr. Lekkas, President of the Anti-Seismic Protection Organization (OASP), that “the international scientific community has pointed out that an earthquake should immediately occur in Istanbul”, has caused concern and questions.

“I say “must” because it is the last piece of the rift. The Anatolia fault consists of 13 pieces, 13 segments. The 12 sections are broken. The last part that has broken, i.e. caused a major earthquake, was in 1999 in Nikomedia. The last fault now that has not ruptured, from 1911 to now, is the fault that is south of Istanbulin the underwater space.

The international scientific groups had calculated that it should have broken by 2020. As long as it is delayed, tensions accumulate and a bigger earthquake can occur”, said Mr. Lekkas for the position of the international scientific community.

Referring to the earthquakes in Bursa and the suburb of Istanbul, Kovackili, he said, according to iefimerida: “They are at the edges and edges of the fault and we suspected that something is happening here, the edges of the fault are breaking, possibly the whole the rift”.

“In any case, however, there must be a big earthquake in the next five years, because, as time passes, the earthquake from 7.8 grows and goes to 8, goes to 8.2. So, you understand, there will be huge losses” concluded the president of the OASP about the earthquake in Istanbul.
