Despite traps and obstacles, everything is ready for the referendum to revoke the mandate: INE One week before the mandate revocation querythe president counselor of the National Electoral Institute (OTHER), Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, assured that everything is ready for this exercise to be carried out in peace and legality, despite the traps, obstacles and violation of the law by some political actors.

The president of General Council of the INE affirmed that this body has made an extraordinary effort to promote the revocation of the mandate, but denounced the constant attempts to hinder and hinder the exercise.

“As it is public and notorious, the INE has made an extraordinary institutional effort to make this exercise known to the public and to promote, consequently, their free and informed participation. This is despite the repeated attempts of some political actors to hinder and hinder the proper development of this unprecedented exercise, by denying the INE the necessary resources, challenging over and over again all the important decisions that have been made, and also violating the repeatedly the rules that they themselves established in the Constitution and in the law,” he said.

He said that despite the traps and thanks to the citizens who trust and collaborate with their INE, “the revocation of the mandate is going and it is going very well,” and he stressed that there are conditions for an exemplary consultation to be held next Sunday.

“As regards the National Electoral Institute, everything is ready for this process of participatory democracy to take place in peace and with conditions of legality, certainty, transparency and absolute trust.”

Córdova Vianello stressed that the INE will be in a position to announce the voting trends on Sunday night through a quick count system, and announce the final results the day after the consultation.

He explained that on April 10, a quick count system will operate with a sample of 1,800 polling places, which will allow for a very reliable estimate of participation and the result of the consultation.

He stressed that on the same night of the electoral day and from the closing of the voting booths, as the electoral packages are transferred and received in the 300 District Councils of the INE, the legal counting of the votes will begin, which will be visible to the citizens through through a system that will be updated in real time.

“This will give absolute certainty and transparency to the exercise and will make it possible for the INE to announce the final results the day after the voting day,” he explained.

On the other hand, he insisted that, nine months ago, when issuing the first version of the guidelines for the mandate revocation process, the INE began working to make it possible.

“First, signature collection mechanisms were implemented so that citizens could request the exercise in the terms established by the Constitution and the signatures received were also validated. In parallel, all the materials for the process were designed, including the ballots with the question that was approved by the Congress of the Union and confirmed by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation”.

Lorenzo Córdova stressed that the visit was made to the people drawn to invite them to serve as officials and poll workers, for which more than 287,000 citizens are designated and fully trained to receive and count the opinions of their neighbors in the 57 1,517 booths that will be installed this April 10.

He explained that the INE has approved more than 2,400 applications from people who will serve as electoral observers and has accredited 52 foreign visitors from 18 countries, who are interested in observing this unprecedented exercise in participatory democracy.
