Developers Publish Open-Source Tools to Bypass AI Limits on GeForce GPUs

Nvidia graphics card owners can now bypass artificial intelligence calculation limits without flashing their device firmware, after software developers published multiple open-source bypass tools on GitHub. As AI workloads become widespread among desktop users, community developers have created intercept utilities that modify hardware register values before official drivers detect the card type.

GeForce RTX 30 Series Ampere Interception

The bypass effort began with a GitHub project titled GPU Unlock, created by a developer named Zagitta. This tool targets Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards built on the Ampere architecture. The software operates by intercepting and altering the card register value prior to driver detection, neutralizing the built-in calculation restriction. Users can disable the modification simply by restarting their personal computers, avoiding the need to alter the video BIOS. Zagitta published community benchmark data showing significant performance gains in BF16 GEMM calculations across multiple cards. A GeForce RTX 3090 achieved a 25 percent performance increase during testing, though the developer noted that power limits capped further gains.

Graphics Card Model Architecture Bypass Project Reported Performance Gain
GeForce RTX 3090 Ampere (RTX 30) GPU Unlock +25% (power limited)
GeForce RTX 4090 Ada Lovelace (RTX 40) GPU Unlock Ada Documented community benchmarks
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Turing (RTX 20) Turing Unlock Documented pre and post metrics

Ada Lovelace Architecture and Older Turing Expansion

Following the initial release, a second developer known as JustAResearcher published GPU Unlock Ada to support newer hardware. This secondary tool removes restrictions on GeForce RTX 40 series cards powered by the Ada Lovelace architecture. Benchmark documentation highlights performance shifts for the GeForce RTX 4090, alongside additional metrics recorded for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER. Bien que des observateurs s’attendaient à un exploit similaire pour la génération GeForce RTX 50 Blackwell, Nvidia a renforcé le verrouillage de ses dernières cartes. Instead of the latest hardware generation, developers expanded compatibility backward to older hardware. A separate project named Turing Unlock, published on GitHub by haohervchb, successfully bypasses restrictions on GeForce RTX 20 series cards using the Turing architecture, providing performance comparisons for hardware including the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.
