Diabetes can go undetected for many years, because most of the time the symptoms are vague and don’t necessarily make you feel ill.

Interestingly, the state of blood sugar also triggers the first signs inside your mouth.

Bad breath and dry mouth are red and warning signs that appear in the mouth and indicate that a person suffers from diabetes, according to the British newspaper “express”.

This is why people should see their dentist at least twice a year for check-ups and cleanings.

It is also important to be aware of any changes in the mouth, so if you notice anything unwanted, you should consult your doctor immediately.

Signs that indicate a blood sugar condition:

• Bleeding gums

• Gingivitis

• Gum disease

Bad breath

Loss of teeth

Dry mouth

Oral thrush

• Fruity breath smell

• Fungal infections in the mouth.

Bleeding and sore gums may be symptoms of gum disease, which is common in people with underlying conditions, such as diabetes.

And if you have diabetes, you’re more likely to suffer from periodontal disease, “an inflammation of the gums and bone around your teeth.”

Gum disease can lead to more warning signs, including bad breath and even tooth loss.

Another sign is a dry mouth, which may make you more susceptible to ulcers and tooth decay.

Moreover, you are also at risk of developing oral thrush as it affects the way your body fights off infections.

This puts your gums at risk of infection due to the bacteria that live in plaque.

Bad breath is one of the main signs of diabetes that indicates a life-threatening condition.

Bad breath can be a sign of diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious and life-threatening condition in which the blood sugar level is so high that it begins to turn acidic.

The last sign to watch out for is fungal infections in the mouth, plus regular check-ups enable dentists to keep an eye on any oral changes.
