Faced with new variants of the coronavirus, XE and XD, the World Health Organization (WHO) calls on governments not to loosen protective measures once morest the virus too quickly.
Dr. Babatunde Olowokure, director of health security and emergencies, said that the two variants were now the subject of special attention.
According to the WHO, the XD variant is a recombinant of the Delta and Omicron variants, while the XE variant – recently detected – is a hybrid of the BA.1 and BA.2 sub-variants. In both cases, extensive studies are underway to learn more regarding these newcomers to the class of X variants.
