According to the authority, she moved to that point after receiving complaints from neighbors who reported the construction of ditches and the felling of native species.

The mayor said that after arriving at the place, suffered an attempted hit by the driver of a Forestal Arauco van.

Carabineros arrived in the sector and, according to what he stated, the officials did not carry out an identity check on a person who kept his face covered.

“We will take legal action, but I call on the Government to take action on the matter. It cannot be that the sovereignty of the peoples and that of the democratically elected authorities is being threatened in this way”, he stated.


According to the commissioner of the Fourth Police Station of Curanilahue, Captain Camilo Del Valle, the officials arrived at the scene after being required by the companywhich reported threats to its workers.

For his part, Arauco’s deputy manager of Public Affairs, Mauricio Leiva, pointed out that the works corresponded to a forestry contractor.

He also assured that no evidence of the attempted attack was found, after an internal investigation carried out by the company, which will continue to be ongoing.

The mayor of Curanilahue received the support of the Association of Municipalities of Bío Bío, as stated by the president of the instance, the mayor of Concepción, Álvaro Ortiz.

“We hope that the investigation that must be carried out will deliver results soon,” he said.

Carabineros pointed out that they have not received formal complaints and, therefore, the Public Ministry was informed ex officio.
