Discharges faster than DualSense, but otherwise everything is fine: The journalist shared his impressions of the DualSense Edge for PS5

Editorial The Verge tested DualSense Edge new premium game controller for PlayStation 5 and PCexpected to go on sale in January for $199.99 in the US and €239.99 in Europe.

The journalist of the publication spent about two hours with the gamepad, during which he tried to test its key features, including new “petals”, reassignable buttons, customizable trigger travel, dead zone and stick sensitivity adjustment, as well as replaceable sticks. He shared his impressions in the framework of a short material.

Below are the main ones.

  • In terms of overall build, size and ergonomics, the DualSense Edge is almost indistinguishable from the original DualSense. The most noticeable changes in terms of tactility are manifested in the fact that the triggers and touchpad now have a “rough” texture, and the inside of the gamepad has acquired a rubberized backing.
  • The course of the buttons and sticks on the DualSense Edge, as the journalist notes, is also very similar to the stock version of the DualSense. The only difference is in the sound. pressing the new controller sound a little quieter.
  • The sticks on the DualSense Edge are very easy to replace. Without much manipulation, you can change both the fungus itself (four options are available) and its height. In addition, the gamepad allows you to change the stick modules themselves, which makes it much easier to fix a broken controller. The journalist noted that the sticks can be combined by setting different options on the right and left with convex and recessed shape, which is suitable for different types of games.
  • DualSense Edge trigger travel selectable by separate switch you can put both a standard option and a more sensitive option, which can be useful in competitive shooters. It is noteworthy that the latter option automatically disables the trigger adaptability system. there will be no pressure resistance.

  • DualSense Edge trigger sensitivity is also programmatically adjustable in this case, the button stroke itself does not change in any way, but the console registers clicks differently.
  • The petals on the DualSense Edge work exactly as you’d expect. The gamepad comes with two lever options. one is smaller, the other is bigger. They are easy enough to change or remove completely. provided you don’t see the need for them. Petals are also fully programmable presses can be assigned to any of the buttons available on the controller.
  • The button mapping process is very convenient. Within the interface of the PlayStation 5, a separate menu is displayed where you can freely remap almost all elements of the controller, including the Start and Create buttons. In addition, the created profiles allow you to freely save into three available presets. switching them is done using new levers located under the stick, as well as four “face” buttons, one of which is always tied to the standard layout of the gamepad.
  • From the negative points, it turned out that the DualSense Edge is discharged somewhat faster than the standard DualSense. Exact figures are not given, but Sony representatives noted that the difference in the duration of the work of the two gamepads will be noticeable. This is due to the fact that in the premium model, the developers have tried to implement many new features without compromising on size and convenience. In addition, as Sony noted, the long wire that comes with the controller is designed to compensate for the reduced operating time.

In general, DualSense Edge meets expectations, the author noted. All functions declared by the manufacturer work.

DualSense Edge expected to launch on January 26, 2023.
