Each of his watercolors tells a story. The painter Georges Ratkoff is exhibited at the Hansi Museum in Colmar this summer. The artist likes to tell of a joyful and colorful Alsace. About thirty of his works are to be discovered until September 30th.
Alsace, its beauty, its poetry and its traditions enchant and inspire the Parisian designer Georges Ratkoff. He, who is not from the region, however, could not resist his charm. This fine observer knows how to render, with his brush and his color palette, all the details of a half-timbered house, a landscape or a scene of everyday life. About thirty of his joyful and colorful little watercolors are exhibited at the Hansi Museum in Colmar.
The watercolourist who depicts himself in one of his canvases was introduced to sketching very early on. “I had shown my drawings to dad who was an architect, he had thought that it was not bad but that from the point of view of perspective, it was not quite that so he gave me my first lessons in design“ underlines Georges Ratkoff.

More than 1600 paintings from Alsace
Pencil, Indian ink, indelible markers, this autodidact of the brush, concerned about beauty and serenity, painted more than 1600 paintings. The artist will have spent hours at Interlinden Museum to observe the visitors and the Altarpiece of Issenheim. Her watercolors amaze this lady, who came from Normandy. “It captures the extraordinary atmosphere that reigns in Alsace, the very typical houses, the costumes, it’s a little history lesson every time“.
It was at the dawn of the 2000s that he moved to Alsace with Monique. His wife of 55 years poses in many watercolors, often in Alsatian costume. “I saw him start and it is especially gradually, the emotion of people seeing his paintings through the sweetness, the tenderness, the smile, people are happy” underlines Monique Ratkoff. Today, the drawings of Georges Ratkoff appear in books, calendars and even on dinner services.
