The former head of ArcMedia, the production company behind Disney+’s hit crime thriller series Casino, has been reported missing for four months, prompting an active police investigation into both his disappearance and a subsequent embezzlement charge, The Chosun Ilbo reported on Wednesday.
The Disappearance of Producer A
- The Missing Person: A former terrestrial television producer who founded a content production firm in 2019 and later led ArcMedia (now Scene & Studio), the company that produced the Disney+ series Casino, has been out of contact since early July 2026.
- The Police Investigation: Family members filed a missing persons report after he failed to return home for an extended period, leading the Goyang Ilsanseo Police Station to track his last known movements via closed-circuit television and mobile phone tower data.
- The Embezzlement Charge: In late July, the automotive parts firm that brought him on as an internal director in 2025 filed a formal police complaint accusing him of embezzling 1.5 billion KRW (approximately 1.14% of the firm’s equity capital), shifting the focus of law enforcement toward potential evasion or foul play.
The Production Background of Casino
The missing executive, identified in reports only as A, built a career in the South Korean television industry as a terrestrial network producer before launching his own independent content studio in 2019. That venture ultimately delivered Casino, a high-profile crime series for Walt Disney Company’s streaming platform, Disney+. The project centered on Cha Mu-sik, a legendary figure in Philippine casinos whose life unravels after he becomes entangled in a murder investigation.
Following the delivery of the series, A transitioned into a different corporate sector. In 2025, an automotive parts manufacturer known in filings as Company B recruited him as an internal director to help spearhead an expansion into the entertainment business. That corporate relationship soured within months of his disappearance, when Company B lodged a formal complaint with the Seoul Seongdong Police Station alleging the unauthorized transfer of 1.5 billion KRW.
The Legal Complications and Search Status
The convergence of a missing persons case and a financial crime investigation has severely restricted the flow of information to A’s family. Once a formal criminal complaint was filed against him, investigative protocols prevented the police from continuing to share active search leads with his relatives. Sharing details such as credit card usage logs or telecommunication tracking data with non-investigative parties could constitute an unlawful disclosure of official secrets under local statutes.
Authorities currently maintain an open approach to the investigation. The Seongdong Police Station, which holds jurisdiction over the embezzlement complaint, is coordinating directly with the Ilsanseo Police Station to locate A. Investigators have not publicly confirmed whether his disappearance is directly tied to the financial allegations, leaving open the possibilities of a voluntary flight from impending legal scrutiny or an unforeseen accident.
