The inhabitants of the Graafjanstraat in Boekhoute quickly understood that something dramatic had happened this Saturday evening when they saw the big commotion in front of the house of Danny Van Driescsche and Carine. “Around 6 p.m., the son-in-law arrived. A little later, the police arrived, then people from the laboratory and finally an ambulance. Carine was loaded into it… handcuffed and escorted by police. After midnight, the funeral directors arrived, taking Danny’s body away, ”explains a local resident to our colleagues from the Gazet van Antwerpen.

We do not yet know what really happened in this house in East Flanders. We only know that the 62-year-old man was killed by suffocation by his wife. The incident allegedly took place in the couple’s bedroom where the woman then attempted to end her life.
For its part, the prosecution simply confirmed the arrest of a woman, aged 62, for the violent murder of her husband. She will be presented to the investigating judge on Monday. No details have filtered for the moment, in the interest of the investigation.
“You never know what is happening behind the facades”
In the neighborhood, the news created a wave of misunderstanding. “They were a very happy couple. Both had just retired. They had a son and a daughter. The girl also had two small children. Danny and Carine were proud grandparents,” says a neighbor. Others add that they have seen them again on Friday. “They were sitting on the terrace of a village café. On Wednesday, Danny was still working in his garden, always so friendly. It seemed to us that he was really a good man. Carine, too, is goodness itself.”
According to information collected by the Gazet van Antwerpen, money problems could have played a role in the drama. “We never heard screams and screams. You never know what’s going on behind the facades, but anyway, we don’t understand any of this,” says local residents.
