Regarding the appearance of Japanese Coast Guard patrol boats in the waters near Dokdo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The appearance of Japanese patrol boats in the waters near Dokdo itself cannot have any impact on our sovereignty over Dokdo.”

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lim Soo-seok met with reporters at the Seoul Government Complex this afternoon and emphasized that ″Dokdo is a unique territory of Korea that is clear historically, geographically and under international law″ and ″the government is firmly exercising its territorial sovereignty over Dokdo.″ .

Spokesman Lim said, “As for the appearance of Japanese patrol boats, I understand that the relevant authorities are taking necessary measures according to the response guidelines.”

According to data recently received from the Korea Coast Guard by Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Seong-ho, a member of the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee, the Japan Coast Guard’s patrol boat entered the waters near Dokdo a total of eight times in a month after the Korea-Japan summit on the 16th of last month.

Over the past five years, the number of times Japanese patrol boats entered the waters near Dokdo was 80 in 2017, 84 in 2018, 100 in 2019, 83 in 2020, 78 in 2021, and 84 in 2022.
