For a temporary stay without taking up gainful employment, Ukrainian citizens with a biometric passport can enter Germany without a visa. In this case, the stay is generally limited to 90 days, according to the city’s website. There are also tips on the website www.hamburg.de/ukrainehow to specifically help Ukrainians. For example, the Hamburg aid project Hanseatic Help organizes aid transports to the Ukraine with a partner organization. It is important to yourself on the Hanseatic Help website to inform which donations in kind are currently needed. the Hamburg volunteer agencies have listed on their website ways in which people from Hamburg can help.
Private offers of help
Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) also spoke of great solidarity on Sunday. “Both in the consulate general and here, there are a lot of private offers of help, where people say: We are ready to take in refugees,” said Tschentscher.
