Dortmund leaves booed after losing 3-2 at home to Hoffenheim

BERLIN (AP) — Emre Can headed wide with the goal at his disposal in stoppage time and Borussia Dortmund suffered its first defeat in 2024 by succumbing 3-2 at home to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

The setback caused a roar from Dortmund fans.

Maximilian Beier scored a double for the visitors, who came back to end a streak of games without a win.

Dortmund remains in fourth place, the last one that ensures qualification for the next Champions League, with Leipzig one point behind.

Ihlas Bebou put Hoffenheim ahead in the second minute of the match.

But Dortmund turned it around with goals from Donyell Malen and Niko Schlotterbeck before the half hour mark.

Beier leveled for Hoffenheim on a counterattack in the 61st and added his second of the night three minutes later.

Earlier, Eintracht Frankfurt drew 0-0 at home once morest Wolfsburg. Omar Marmoush’s goal in stoppage time saved the tie for Frankfurt.

With a late goal from Arne Engels, Augsburg came from behind to defeat visiting Freiburg 2-1. Augsburg moved nine points clear of Cologne in the relegation zone with 11 rounds left.

Bayer Leverkusen leads the table with a difference of eight points over Bayern Munich, the champion of the last 11 seasons. Both teams came out on top 2-1 once morest Mainz and Leipzig, respectively, this weekend.
