Double shock at royal blue |
Two Schalke stars have been out for months!
Bitter double diagnosis!
In the home game defeat against Augsburg (2: 3), two Schalke stars were injured.
▶ Holland defender Sepp van den Berg (20/loan from Liverpool) was stretchered off the pitch and then taken to hospital with a broken ankle.
The diagnosis: severe ligament injury on the left ankle! Several tapes are said to be damaged. It will no longer be used in 2022.
Royal Blue can only get a replacement for the newcomer in the winter transfer period. Since Marcin Kaminski (30/OP after a laceration) and Ibrahima Cissé (21/torn muscle) are also out longer, Schalke only have two central defenders left in Maya Yoshida (34/too slow) and Leo Greiml (21/comeback after a cruciate ligament rupture).
▶ In addition to the Dutchman, Rodrigo Zalazar (23) was also seriously injured. The fan favorite suffered a metatarsal fracture in a duel with the Augsburgers! The Uru dribbler was substituted on in the second half – it was only after the game ended that Zalazar reportedly felt pain. He, too, will no longer play a competitive game for Royal Blue this calendar year.
Sports Director Rouven Schröder (46) on the double of the Schalke stars: “It’s extremely bitter. In the past we’ve shown several times that as a group we can cope with injury-related absences, no matter how serious they are – and we’ll be able to do that this time too. We have absolute confidence in the squad.”
