Drew Hansen and Civan de Jesus Ferreira earn Sun Belt weekly honors

UCF redshirt forward Drew Hansen claimed the Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor for the third consecutive week, while West Virginia junior defender Civan de Jesus Ferreira secured the defensive weekly award for the final slate of the 2026 season, sunbeltsports.org reported.

Hansen cemented his dominance on the offensive end by racking up three goals and two assists across two victories for the Knights against Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The Cleveland, North Carolina native opened the week with a brace in a 5-1 rout of Georgia State on Oct. 29, marking his fourth multi-goal performance of the campaign. He followed that up by netting the decisive game-winner in the regular-season finale against Georgia Southern, locking down the No. 3 seed for UCF in the upcoming Sun Belt Championship. With 12 goals now to his name, Hansen leads the conference in both total goals and points heading into the postseason.

Defensively, de Jesus Ferreira played every single minute across West Virginia’s two shutout wins over Coastal Carolina on Oct. 29 and James Madison on Nov. 3, according to voiceofmotown.com. Operating from the back line, the Berlin, Germany native anchored a Mountaineers defense that surrendered just five total shots on goal across both matches.

The stellar defensive stretch helped West Virginia secure a share of the Sun Belt regular-season title alongside Marshall. Goalkeeper Toby Mawer anchored the back line with three saves against James Madison to claim his ninth clean sheet of the year, extending the Mountaineers’ consecutive shutout streak to six matches and a scoreless run lasting 577 minutes. De Jesus Ferreira marks the fourth West Virginia player to earn a weekly conference award this season, joining Pablo Pozos, Jacob Redenfors, and Mawer.

Top-seeded West Virginia prepares to host No. 8 seed Georgia Southern on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. Eastern in Morgantown, with all tournament action streaming live on ESPN+.
